Super Easy Baby Blanket Kits from the Purl Bee

How cute are these baby blankets from the purl bee? Blanket kits are $120 and available online. If my scarf is a success, I might have to tackle this project.

Casting On

I've learned to knit at least three times. My first teacher was my grandmother. From her, I learned to cast on and make a stockinette stitch. I diligently practiced my stitching for about three days before putting it down for ten years. In college, I asked my aunt to teach me again. I caught on fairly quickly and set out to make a scarf. This time I lasted a little less than a week before unraveling a foot and a half of neatly knitted black rows because I had dropped a stitch and couldn't figure out how to fix my mistake.

Two weeks ago my friend Laura taught me again. She reminded me of the basics, how to knit and purl, and sent me home with a set of needles and a small skein of pink and purple wool yarn. I wasn't making anything. I was just practicing, per Laura's instructions. When I made a mistake, I was free to ignore it and keep stitching. I've made it through a record two weeks and the small skein of two-toned yarn. Tonight I bought a ball of thick blue yarn. Once again, I want to make a scarf. The goal is to learn to mend mistakes and resist the urge to unravel everything.
